PUT THIS IN YOUR DEN for one of the all-time great Louisville post-hardcore/emo/indie rock albums. While False Cathedrals has received cult-like praise over the past decade of inactivity (and rightfully so), U.S. Songs is equally brilliant, bridging the gap between lead singer Chris Higdon's former hardcore band Falling Forward with the more experimental and melodic Elliott. An essential classic from the late '90s - from the sour melodies of "The Watermark High" to the flawless harmonies of "The Conversation."

Originally released in 1998, Elliott's debut full-length, "U.S. Songs," came with a lot of hype in the independent music scene as their previous single had garnered much positive press. Aggressive guitars storm out of the gates with the track "Miracle," and for the rest of the album, the band never lets up. For people wanting to understand indie rock music, Elliott is a worthy point of entry, encompassing emotional heights and depths along with the tight musicianship that is expected from a genre known for wearing its heart on its sleeve.
